Clinics
The main sexual health clinic in Leicestershire is at the Loughborough Health Centre on Pinfold Gate, LE11 1DQ. You can find their opening hours here (scroll to the bottom of the page) – they offer a mix of pre-booked appointments and ‘queue & wait’ clinics, six days a week.
In addition to this main clinic, the Leicestershire & Rutland Sexual Health Hub also offer regular community-based clinics for young people and adults in a range of locations across Leicestershire and Rutland.
Contraception
Contraception is used to prevent unintended pregnancies. There are many types to choose from and different methods suit different people. Some require a procedure to have them fitted and removed.
Condoms are the only method of contraception which will help to prevent pregnancy and protect you against Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).
The Leicestershire & Rutland Sexual Health Hub provides a wide range of free and confidential contraception methods, including information and advice on which may be best suited for you. For more information on your options, check out this page about contraception .
Emergency Hormonal Contraception (‘morning after pill’)
Emergency hormonal contraception (often referred to as ‘the morning after pill’) is a pill you can take after sex without a condom (or a contraceptive failure) which vastly reduces the chance of pregnancy by preventing or delaying ovulation.
There are two kinds of pills. One needs to be taken within 72 hours (3 days), and the other needs to be taken within 120 hours (5 days). Emergency hormonal contraception is more effective the sooner you take it, so act fast.
EHC is an emergency form of contraception and should not be used as a regular method of contraception.
You can access EHC from sexual health clinics and many community pharmacies. To find out the nearest pharmacy offering this service, visit the NHS website.

The Leicestershire & Rutland Sexual Health Hub’s Condoms Now scheme offers free and easy access to condoms, lube and sexual health information for teenagers and adults across Leicestershire and Rutland.

Long Acting Reversable Contraception
This service is provided by local GPs. You might be able to access it from your own GP (if they have someone trained to fit and remove these forms of contraception). There are also some GP surgeries across the county (and in the city of Leicester) who can fit and remove coils and implants for people who are not registered at their surgeries.
