We work closely with Leicester Sexual Health who provide mainstream NHS sexual health services in Leicester. All their services are free and confidential for everyone
This page gives an overview of the range of sexual and reproductive health services available to people living in Leicester. There is a good mix of in-person and online services which offer flexibility and easy access to services.
Clinics
The main sexual health clinic in Leicester is the Haymarket Clinic on the first floor of the Haymarket Shopping Centre, LE1 3YT (opposite Primark). You can find their opening hours here – they offer a mix of pre-booked appointments and ‘queue & wait’ clinics, six days a week.
In addition to this main clinic, Leicester Sexual Health also offer regular community-based clinics for young people and adults in a range of locations across the City (including the LGBTQ+ clinics based with us at Trade).
Contraception
Contraception is used to prevent unintended pregnancies. There are many types to choose from and different methods suit different people. Some require a procedure to have them fitted and removed.
Condoms are the only method of contraception which will help to prevent pregnancy and protect you against Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).
Leicester Sexual Health provides a wide range of free and confidential contraception methods, including information and advice on which may be best suited for you. For more information on your options, check out this page about contraception (which also explains how and where you can access different forms of contraception).
Emergency Hormonal Contraception (‘morning after pill’)
Emergency hormonal contraception (often referred to as ‘the morning after pill’) is a pill you can take after sex without a condom (or a contraceptive failure) which vastly reduces the chance of pregnancy by preventing or delaying ovulation.
There are two kinds of pills. One needs to be taken within 72 hours (3 days), and the other needs to be taken within 120 hours (5 days). Emergency hormonal contraception is more effective the sooner you take it, so act fast.
EHC is an emergency form of contraception and should not be used as a regular method of contraception.
You can access EHC from sexual health clinics and many community pharmacies. To find out the nearest pharmacy offering this service, visit Leicester Sexual Health’s Clinic and Service Locator.
Condoms
Leicester Sexual Health’s C-Card Scheme offers free and easy access to condoms, lube and sexual health information for teenagers and adults in Leicester. The C Card is a small card, the size of a debit card, and can be used in over 60 city venues including many pharmacies, colleges, universities, clinics and schools.
All the information you need about how to register for the C-Card Scheme and how it works is available here.
