Don't be a Dick
Trade has produced a short booklet for cis, heterosexual teenagers who want to support their LGBTQ+ friends and be better allies. Don’t be a dick!
More about the project
We deliver lots of health promotion stalls and events in schools and colleges across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland each year. We are there to provide information and advice about sexual health to anyone who needs it, but we are committed to ensuring that LGBTQ+ young people have a safe space to access the information they need to stay safe.
The Don’t be a Dick! zine was written and designed by Ezra, a student from Stephenson College in Coalville who did a placement for her health and social care course at Trade in 2023/24. Ezra had helped us run several health promotion stalls in local colleges and noticed that well-meaning straight students sometimes put their LGBTQ+ friends on the spot and embarrassed them when they saw the range of LGBTQ-inclusive material on our stalls. Ezra wanted to provide some advice to these students so they could support their friends more appropriately and be better allies.
Don’t be a Dick! is now one of the most popular booklets on the stalls we run in schools and colleges across the county. You can download a copy from our resources page
